“PHENOMENA: The Lost and Forgotten Children” by Susan Tarr is a book that everyone should read at least once. I have to say that normally if I read about an asylum it’s a horror story, so this book was an interesting change of pace for me. I usually stay away from anything that might potentially make me cry, but I couldn’t stay away from this one.
Told from the point of view of Malcolm, a character based in real events, the book was incredibly gripping and touching. Behavior and psychology have always intrigued me, and this book did not fail to disappoint in those areas. Everything about the book drew me in from the beginning. I laughed, smiled, and cried. I wanted to hug Malcolm and others in the book. The wonderful writing brought me into a world I never dreamed existed, and I almost feel changed by the book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who reads, no matter what genre they enjoy.
