“GM” by Alan Porter is a fast-paced thriller about a scientist and a genetically-modified crop. Dr. Rachel Whitelock has developed a new type of rice that is being tested in various African locations. Of course in the mix is the corrupt corporation, SenCor, behind the crop, as well as a nasty guerilla group who wants it for their own purposes, and also has designs against Dr. Whitelock.
Overall I found the book to be fast-paced but highly emotional and distressing. All good things! The characters are believable and have plenty of depth to take you into the book. The locations are places I’ve never been, but after reading the book they felt familiar to me. I thought that the author did a great job handling the story and plot and the book was very well-written. If you enjoy thrillers with some scientific and international flair, this is one you’ll definitely want to check out!
