“Charlie’s Pond” by C.L. Heckman is such a heart-wrenching story of Sam and her relationship not only with her family, but also with her peers. Told from the first person point of view of Sam, the book touches on sibling domestic violence, along with parental neglect and abuse. It’s a troubling story, but one that reads so quickly because it’s absolutely captivating. I could not stop turning the pages and read the book in just two sittings. This is truly a touching book that anyone with a heart would be affected by. My only complaint about the book is I want more! I would love to know where Sam goes next and how she grows from her experiences.
